Pritam Banerjee Interview

What inspired you to start writing?

Well to be frank I was reading the novel ‘Oh yes I’m Single and so is my Girlfriend’ by Durjoy Datta. Suddenly some part of that novel inspired me to write ‘I, Me & Her, Forever’. So I would like to thank Durjoy da and his book for inspiring me so much.

What did you like to read when you were a boy?

When I was in school in class 6 or 7 maybe I used to read books of Charles dickens and Robert Louis Stevenson. Sometimes Thomas hardy as well.

What is the greatest challenge in writing a book?

See I am not someone who is doing a course on literature or I am not that kind of a student who used to get the highest marks in English in school. I used to get average marks always. Be it in English grammar or sentence construction or fluently speaking in English I was not that appropriate. So I feel use of good English words and writing proper English is the hardest thing about writing. And of course carving out a story is another big step

How much research do you do before writing the book?

Not much. I was confident in writing an English fiction which will be based on real life incidents. So more or less I had the idea what to write and I had the story in mind as well. I just needed to carve it out and polish it.

What motivated you to write the book “I, Me and Her Forever”?

See I told you I prefer collecting ideas from real life incidents. I think an author must try to write something which appeals to a maximum number of people. Even I try to do that. So my motivation comes from several authors and reading their books. For example the character Abhishek in my novel resembles me in many ways. Not only Abhishek. Each and every character of the book resembles a character in reality. The entire story is more or less a true story and the incidents have been collected from real life.

Can you tell us more about your latest book “I, Me and Her Forever”?

‘I, Me & Her Forever’ is not only a romantic novel; it’s also a tale of crush, relationship and friendship. This novel is written specially keeping in mind about the life of teenagers, their perspective about love and relationships, how they lead their life when they are in love, the problems which they face when they are in a relationship and obviously what life becomes after they are separated and how their thoughts about love change rapidly. So I would strongly recommend teenagers to go through my novel once

How did you come up with the idea of writing romantic fiction genre book?

AS I said I started reading novels with love stories. The more love stories I read, the more I got attached to it. I cannot explain you why I am attracted to this form of genre but I can surely tell you that I love reading love stories. Then when I decided to write my novel I was truly determined in writing a love story because I felt I could justice to this form of genre.

Jeffrey Archer, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nicolas Sparks, Khushwant Singh, etc..

How much time do you dedicate for writing on a daily basis?

Writing for me you can say is my hobby or passion. I am not a full time writer. So I don’t get to write every day. But whenever I have free time I start penning down

What words of wisdom would you like to give to aspiring writers?

Read more. The more you read, the more you get to learn and the more you learn the more you gain knowledge. You can develop a good and unique style of writing a novel, different and varied sorts of ideas will automatically develop and ultimately you’ll be able to enrich yourself by that. And for those who are already established writers I have just one message for them “Keep getting better and better”.
