Shivangi Ramsay Interview

What inspired you to start writing?

I have always been interested in Literature right from a very young age. Writing was a natural progression for me. Then one fine day, it just struck me that I should make a sincere effort to give shape to my long-cherished dream of seeing my name in print. I finished writing my first romance a fortnight after I first had that thought.

What did you like to read when you were a girl?

I liked to read the usual fare like other kids. Being an only child, I voraciously devoured everything my mother got for me during the much awaited summer holidays. Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley Twins Series were my all-time favorites.

What is the greatest challenge in writing a book?

Writing calls for unflinching discipline and commitment. Such undying devotion could get really burdensome, especially if you have a steady day job to put food on your table.

How much research do you do before writing the book?

I usually devote a month or two to research.

What motivated you to write the book “Mine for Tonight”?

I believe in the magic of love. And “Mine for Tonight” is a purely romance novel. Need I say more?

Can you tell us more about your latest book “Mine for Tonight”?

Mine for Tonight” is a contemporary romance based on the concept of one night stand. It will appeal to people with modern outlook.

How did you came up with the idea of writing romantic fiction genre book?

I was quite a lover of romances in my teens. But as I grew up I realized that most of these books were shockingly sexist and regressive in their portrayal of women characters. I was dying to read about strong-willed heroines, but they were nowhere to be found. That’s when I decided to write “Mine for Tonight” to create a strong and ambitious heroine unlike any the readers had read before.

Who are your favourite authors?

The list is too long. But still to name a few, I would pick up authors that have left a lasting impression on my mind. Recently, I started reading books on Dalit Literature. Om Prakash Valmiki’s Joothan and Bama’s Sangati are my current favorites. Reading them has been a life-changing experience for me. I recommend them to each and every one of my readers.

How much time do you dedicate for writing on a daily basis?

I write early in the morning for two hours at a stretch. It is the most productive time of the day for me.

What words of wisdom would you like to give to aspiring writers?

Never stop reading. Read books that make a difference in the way you perceive the world.
